Defending the Family

for 14 years

The conversation started out, "Will you do something about the sex bars, immorality and obscenity?"  As I got additional names on my application for the ballot in a Justice of the Peace race, the westside constituents demanded that my campaign -- address the daily pit-stops at the topless bars for some of our men, molestation, rape, and cultural war against the family and community.  In l995, I didn't know much about the topless bars or the underground crime that supported immorality in Houston, but I went forward for the sake of morality and decency during my first election.  Anyway,  I needed votes and media attention to do it. And besides the attention, the Houston City Ordinance regarding the SOBs was drafted during this time and passed in l997 with our group's participation while the topless bars appealed it until April 17, 2007, when the 1500 foot rule was implemented by the City of Houston.  Residents get tough with topless clubs

Since l995, the Houston Chronicle wrote political articles advising the voters on the westside, that Kristopher was a "MORALITY ACTIVITIST."  As her two daughters went off to college, leaving more time to be adventurous, the liberal press had a field day -- at times with the three political campaigns and extra curricula activities. Where was Anne Coulter in those days?

HOUSTON CITY ORDINANCE

The City Ordinance is also supported by conservatives such as Republican Council member Martha Wong, and City Council candidate Karen Kristopher equates topless bars with pornography. During a City Council hearing last January she stated:

"I am asking you to take a hard stand. You have few people here to oppose this ordinance except for males who attend topless bars to satisfy their addiction to pornography." HOUSTON TOPLESS DANCER SURVEY

HOUSTON PRESS

"The guy in the blue Volvo had one of those rubbery, expressive faces.  "You gonna take my picture?" he hollered, sounding a De Niro-ish mixture of invitation and threat as he leaned through the open window on the passenger side.

It was a moot question. Karen Kay Kristopher, who was standing on the sidewalk near the parking lot entrance of The Men's Club, had already hoisted her Nikon One Touch to eye level and fired. The guy in the blue Volvo leaned farther out the window and belatedly mugged for the camera before cussing Kristopher and giving her the finger. As the Volvo wheeled away, he extended the same farewell to Kristopher's video camera-toting companion, who was stationed out on the median of the 3300 block of Sage.

Karen Kay Kristopher was unmoved. She'd already been planted in front of The Men's Club for more than an hour, and in that time, she figured, she had elicited 20 or so other upraised middle fingers," wrote the Houston Press in February l996.

HOUSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL

While the Houston Business Journal wrote June 1996 -- Almost at the same time, a fax addressed to Media, Churches, Bible Studies was sent on behalf of "Operation Shutdown" Topless bars get put on the spot announcing a camera shoot at the new Treasures bar. This message from Karen Kay Kristopher requested prayers for protection "as we stand against this latest addition of the topless sex bars in Houston." The group's aim was to "take pictures of the men entering and leaving these Sexually Oriented Businesses" and to "write letters to the companies servicing them, contact the Convention Bureau and other institutions for assistance in stopping the destruction of our families."

Taking pictures of people without their permission is an aggressive, sometimes threatening act, but it is a nonviolent activity. Citizens' videos have served as crucial evidence in recent celebrated police brutality cases. Do citizen video squads serve cause of justice? - Houston Business ...

Will teams of angry citizens armed with audio and video equipment promote the cause of justice, or will they simply provoke dangerous confrontations among people who disagree? It's a question that may be answered in Houston's immediate future.

Running for political office certainly had become too exciting, as our camera crews visited the "Hub" of the topless bar industry in the Galleria before my first election in Houston.  What a fast source of underground education in the world of pornography and obscenity.

OUR BEGINNINGS in defending family values, by addressing the addiction for pornography and obscenity, were shared at each political gathering of candidates before the voter's listening ears - who soaked-up every expression for moralilty and decency.  HoustonChronicle.com - 1997 Voter's Guide The voting crowds cheered and clapped that someone would dare to do something against the pornography, topless bars, and cultural decline.

Topless bar, after topless bar customers in their photographed cars streamed by our volunteer groups. Positioning the cameras just right to include the front portion of  their vehicle, face and license plate number keeping Operation ShutDown busy in this dangerous endeavor.  The TV stations wanted to know the names of those visiting the topless bars and their pictures. Should our information be handed over to the media, as hounded? US Supreme Court

The United States Supreme Court has mandated that each community define the adult community standard for obscenity.  Because of this legal directive, every citizen should participate in the meaning of obscenity, therein addressing various arenas in their community.   Since pornography is behind every sex crime, the definition  of obscenity should not be limited necessarily to the police or prosecutors, but again, developed by registered voters who will consider the safety, health, and morality of their community, thereby creating public policy.   Eventually, the community standard for obscenity is further determined by the jury on any given civil or criminal court case involving obscenity.

When a community is committed to morality and decency standards, family foundations are strengthened by the framer's intent from the United States Constitution.  Being able to hold town meetings, referendums by the voters, voting on Constitutional Amendments, elections of officials, church rallies, prayer groups,  correctly appointing officials, nonprofit's addressing thresholds, having elected officials responsive to the public, and public debates with the police, elected officials, and prosecuting attorneys willing to listen to and use the developed adult community standard on obscenity, without lawyer dominance overwhelming public efforts.

Nevertheless, whenever our constitution is undermined, we have a problem with those who would minimize any lawful adult's ability to define obscenity within the community standard.   As we have seen, rape and immorality are up across our country, because obscenity is unchecked and undefined, while the drug of choice "addiction for pornography" fills every available soul.   Forming a Committee on Obscenity within the prosecutor's office with a range of voters also included, would provide the checks and balances needed.

Morality and Decency Conference Speakers

Dr. James Dobson Thank You Phyllis Schlafly-Founding Mother Anne Graham Lotz

Noted here or click for More Speakers -- for the key factors when guiding each family or community across this country in the definition of obscenity.  Obscenity and pornography are out of control, fueling those with an addiction for pornography resulting in rapes, molestation, and assaults on our girls, including our boys.  Otherwise, sexual play is kin to sexually transmitted diseases which has climbing numbers in the middle of a cultural war also for our young people.  Whether or not future citizens are able to give blood to the local blood banks at 18 years or older creates an interesting standard for future health, if sexual exploitation continues.

Nevertheless, if lawful adult citizens are not allowed to take their rightful position defining obscenity by implementing safeguards against it,  we can expect family values to weaken since the definition of obscenity is underchecked by govermental officals. The Brian Doyle case, where Homeland Security director was caught seeking underage girls, demostrates how the Justice Department did not investigate background checks properly. And the case with Justin who recently turned in 1500 sex predators, to find the Justice Department had't pursued them for arrest, except for two.   When predators attack on an average of 117 times, before they are arrested the first time, convicted, and labeled a "sex offender,"  controlling and limiting pornography which fuels the sex predators should be our watchful focus when defining obscenity for each community standard.

Finally, don't wait, call our conference speakers today.   Our conference speakers have their own suggestions and schedules, when accepting speaking engagements for your group.  As you directly contact one or more of CfD's speakers, consider the ground rules and their needs.  Each speaker also has a different focus on morality and decency with rewarding results by motivating, educating, and equipping your family and community.   Otherwise,  if obscenity continues unchecked and undefined, our worst fears may be seen.

Our Worst Fears -- A 13-month-girl, biting on a pink plastic pacifier, sat in her uncle’s lap in a Houston courtroom Thursday and watched as a jury recommended a 50-year sentence for the man who raped her when she was 6 weeks old.” Houston Chronicle February 5, 2005.  CfD reports the stepfather/boyfriend worked in a pornography--related magazine/book store, for starters.  His addiction for pornography led him to rape the baby.   This is a sad day for reporting.

A Cincinnati woman is in the County Jail, accused of not reporting the rape of her 7-week-old baby. Shannon Sorah, 27, is being held on $40,000 bond for two counts of child endangering. Prosecutors said Sorah witnessed what was happening and did nothing about it. Last week, her husband, Joseph, was arrested and charged with rape. He's being held without bond.

Justin Berry
"Justin's testimony
on April 5-6, 2006, conjures up superlative descriptions: gut-wrenching, stomach-churning, appalling, unbelievable, horrific during Congressional Hearings. While November 19, 2005 Justin recounted how at 13 he was propositioned by a child predator within minutes of signing up to a Web cam site. This proposition led to years of sexual abuse and molestation by as many as 1500 pedophiles online and in person. Justin became addicted to drugs and wanted to die. His own father pimped him for money. He was fully ensnared in an online nightmare few of us have ever dreamed possible." Focus on the Family.

LAKELAND - When he wasn't sending pornographic movies to and asking for explicit photos from a teenage girl in Polk County, a Maryland man was bragging about his job as a spokesman at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, law enforcement officers said.

The revelation - actually made to a detective posing as a 14-year-old girl - resulted in the arrest of 55-year-old Brian J. Doyle at his Silver Spring, Md., home Tuesday night, officials said

"A teenage baby sitter ... has been charged with raping and sodomizing three children he was watching in their home ... The youth had been abusing the children since the summer of 2002, when he began watching pornographic videos with the eldest child, a boy who was then 12, the warrant said. He eventually abused all three children, the [Connecticut] state police charged. He intimidated the children by telling them he would assault other members of the family ... and tortured them with a knife, among other items, the warrant said."                               ****************

bob petersMorality in Media -- Robert Peters - Defenders of hardcore pornography say that the widespread availability of this material is proof that communities now accept it. If that were true, no jury could ever find any sex material to be obscene—because to be obscene sexual material must violate community standards. But as the Supreme Court noted in Hamling v. United States, 418 U.S. 87, at 125-126 (1974):

"As stated by the Court of Appeals, the mere fact that materials similar to the brochure at issue here 'are for sale and purchased at book stores around the country does not make them witnesses of virtue.' Ibid. Or, as put by the Court of Appeals in U.S. v. Manarite, 448 F.2nd 583 (CA2 1971):

'Mere availability of similar material by itself means nothing more than that other persons are engaged in similar activities.' Id., at 593."

Undoubtedly, there is a large market for hardcore pornography with a society saturated with images of obscenity; but just as with other addictions, a large percentage of hardcore pornography is presumably consumed by a relatively small percentage of people (young and old) addicted to it.

Test for Obscenity Today -- The basic three prong test for determining whether visual or written works are obscene material is as follows:

Whether the average person, applying contemporary adult community standards, would find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest (i.e., an erotic, lascivious, abnormal, unhealthy, degrading, shameful, or morbid interest in nudity, sex, or excretion); and

Whether the average person, applying contemporary adult community standards, would find that the work depicts or describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct (i.e., ultimate sexual acts, normal or perverted, actual or simulated, masturbation, excretory functions, lewd exhibition of the genitals, or sado-masochistic sexual abuse); and whether a reasonable person would find that the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.

Focusing on Solutions -- Whether TV, movies,  videos, music, magazines, fatherless homes, technology,  sexual exploitation, or the Internet is transforming the experience of growing up in America,  the job of being a parent has also been transforming over our children.  The internet especially brings the world – the good, the bad, and the ugly – to the American family’s doorstep.   As a consequence, the Internet and all other forms of immorality have radically challenged the capacity of parents to control what their children are exposed to and at what age they are exposed to it.  Therefore, training your children and gathering more information where limiting obscenity is concerned will benefit a better America.   Our hope is in the Power of the Word from the Creator.
