As a Survivor

Holly K. Dunn (Holly Dunn Pendleton) is the only known survivor of the Railroad Serial Killer, Angel Maturino Resendiz. She and her boyfriend, Chris Maier, were attacked by Resendiz on August 28, 1997 in Lexington, KY. Both were students at the University of Kentucky.  Chris was killed in the attack. But somehow, Holly survived. She was raped, beaten, stabbed, and left for dead. After recovering physically, Holly began the lifelong process of healing emotionally. She had a broken eye socket, a broken jaw, a stab wound, and numerous cuts on her head and face.  Though Holly's life has been dramatically affected and changed by the attack, she prides herself on living as a survivor, not a victim. Beware -- 'Zoo' is a documentary about what director Robinson Devor accurately characterizes as 'the last taboo, on the boundary of something comprehensible.' But remarkably, an elegant, eerily lyrical film has resulted. 'Zoo,' premiering before a rapt audience Saturday night at Sundance, manages to be a poetic film about a forbidden subject, a perfect marriage between a cool and contemplative director (the little-seen 'Police Beat') and potentially incendiary subject matter: sex between men and animals. Moot Question of Removal

There is usually a way where there seems no way.  Days before a major appeals court hearing on a Bible display at a Harris County courthouse, the county has removed a monument that once contained the Bible. County officials say the move Friday was part of the renovation of the old Civil Courts Building, and was unrelated to the hearing scheduled for Tuesday in New Orleans before the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Abuse

During my childhood, I was abused sexually, emotionally, verbally, and physically. Many of you reading this article have also been abused, or you deal with someone in your life who comes from an abusive, dysfunctional background. What is abuse? It means to misuse, to use improperly, to use up, or to injure by maltreatment. Let me give you a brief definition of the four types of abuse. Sexual abuse: considered to be the most degrading and offensive. It consists of molestation, rape, incest, exhibitionism, voyeurism, obscene phone calls, etc. Abuse and the Miracle of Recovery
