There are enough rape and sexual assault stories coming out of Iraq these days to keep Americans variously outraged and confused. In the past few weeks, two major stories have appeared -- on Salon.com and in The New York Times Sunday magazine -- reporting the difficulties servicewomen face in a testosterone-infused military. In both stories, women reported being sexually harassed, assaulted and sometimes raped by their own comrades in arms. Many are suffering a double dose of post- |

Anti-rapist lawmakers took a step today toward forcing Attorney General Paul Morrison to re-file charges against abortion provider, Dr. George Tiller. The House Federal and State Affairs Committee endorsed a resolution telling Morrison to re-file 30 misdemeanor charges filed in December, by his predecessor Phill Kline. Kline accused Tiller of performing illegal late-term abortions, but a district judge dismissed them the next day. In a statement, Morrison's office says the investigation into Tiller's actions continues even though the committee has sent the resolution to the full house, it will hold a hearing on it tomorrow. Morrison is invited to testify.

Child Pornography Law
The Supreme Court agreed Monday to decide the constitutionality of a child pornography law. The issue arose in the case of Michael Williams, whose conviction in Florida for promoting child porn was reversed by the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.
The appeals court panel found the pandering provision of the PROTECT Act of 2003 was overbroad and impermissibly vague, saying that it criminalizes the speech of someone who touts material as child pornography when in fact it is clean or nonexistent.
In the appeals court's view, the pandering provision could apply to an e-mail entitled "Good pics of kids in bed" sent by a grandparent, with innocent pictures attached of grandchildren in pajamas. Supreme Court agrees to review a child pornography law |

Gov. Ted Strickland needs to reconsider killing funding for the state's abstinence-only education - ending eight years of support for the program in Ohio public schools. Whether abstinence education is effective depends on whom you believe. But Ohio rates of teen pregnancy have dropped dramatically in recent years. And totally eliminating funds for the abstinence education without offering up an alternative seems reckless at best.Instead of eliminating that funding, why not try a third way? Couple abstinence education with a broader health curriculum that includes sex education. Keep abstinence in curriculum

Family Concerns

The expression “nobody’s perfect” is used or heard almost every day, but it’s true—I’m not perfect, you’re not perfect, nobody’s perfect. Hopefully, though, we’re all getting better and are on our way to perfection. The important thing to remember is that even though we’re not yet perfect, we’re still OK. Just because we haven’t arrived yet doesn’t mean that we’re not on our way.
It’s true that we all still have a long way to go. I used to get discouraged about how far I had to go, and it seemed like I was reminded of it every day, sometimes every hour.
I'm OK and I'm On My Way!
