 Java giant Starbucks finds itself entangled in yet another brewing controversy over its “The Way I See It” campaign. Starbucks has a history of placing liberal, pro-homosexual and anti-God statements submitted by customers, celebrities and other public figures on the side of its coffee cups for customers to contemplate while they wash down a muffin with a Frappe-Mocha-whatever. Although the company has every right to do what it wants with its cups, one questions whether it makes good business sense to intentionally alienate a large percentage of the coffee drinking public with these inflammatory political musings. Many customers with traditional values find it quite offensive. Custom's Seizure While we encourage strong father and son relationships, a former University of Pennsylvania professor was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison and fined $17,500 for importing child pornography. Lawrence Scott Ward, 64, of Philadelphia, was arrested Aug. 27 after returning from Brazil through Washington Dulles International Airport. Customs agents discovered child pornography on Ward's computer and found DVDs containing videos of Ward having sex acts with an underage boy, according to court documents. Asian Scandal As this scandal unfolds, we also learn that the Chinese have been putting cyanuric acid, a chemical related to melamine that is used in chlorination during pool cleaning, into wheat gluten products sold to the United States. The Food and Drug Administration discovered this deception when pets started dying. Melamine contamination is implicated in some 4,000 cat and dog deaths, 60 million packages of pet food have been recalled, and regulators have blocked all Chinese imports of wheat gluten and warned importers to screen every kind of food and feed additive coming from China.

It’s human nature to be concerned about the bad situations in our world and in our personal lives, but if we're not careful, the devil will cause us to worry beyond what’s reasonable. Worry is like a rocking chair—it’s always in motion but it never gets you anywhere. So why do we struggle with it? And what good does it do? Worry is the opposite of faith, and it steals our peace, physically wears us out, and can even make us sick. When we worry, we torment ourselves—we're doing the devil's job for him! Worry is caused by not trusting God to take care of the various situations in our lives. Too often we trust our own abilities, believing that we can figure out how to take care of our own problems.
