Beth Moore Headlines such as the one above this essay should be relegated to the "Keen Sense of the Obvious" files. What cadre of nescient dolts does not already know that fathers are essential to healthy families, and who among us would waste good money on a study to affirm that which is so abundantly clear? Alas, certain enlightened folks out there insist that holding the institution of fatherhood in high esteem is tantamount to misogyny. In fact, many liberals have, for the past four decades, insisted that mothers can do it all. One of the high priestesses of the so-called women's movement, Gloria Steinem, once declared, "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." And last fall, uber leftist Feminista Maureen Dowd published a book entitled, "Are Men Necessary?" which has become the manifesto of the

man-hating movement.Worse yet,  academicians are spending large sums of your tax dollars to research this very question, despite the plethora of family research indicating that children raised in homes with their biological fathers have a much higher chance of succeeding in life. Unfortunately, some 25 million American children live absent or apart from their biological fathers. Only one in five inner-city children -- are in homes with their biological fathers. REGULATING ADULT BUSINESS A San Diego county ordinance regulating the operation of adult entertainment businesses and requiring them to move to industrial zones is constitutional, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled yesterday. In an opinion by Judge Barry G. Silverman, the court affirmed the decision of U.S. District Judge Larry A. Burns of the Southern District of California granting summary judgment against the operators of an adult establishment who had challenged the ordinance on constitutional grounds. The panel also affirmed the district court’s grant of summary judgment against the plaintiffs on their claim that the ordinance violated a state law requiring ordinances to be consistent with a county’s general plan, saying the plaintiffs had failed to raise the claim in their complaint. The court, however, reversed the district court’s decision to sever the time period

for reviewing permits under the ordinance because the decision raised other constitutional problems. The San Diego County Board of  Supervisors adopted a comprehensive zoning ordinance in June of 2002 to govern the operation of adult entertainment businesses within unincorporated portions of the county. CENTERS FOR DISEASE An estimated 1 million young Californians had a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in 2005, including one in every four to five 15- to 24-year-olds in Los Angeles County, researchers said Tuesday. The study, reported in the Los Angeles Times, also found that the cost of treating the new infections is more than $1 billion a year."This is no surprise," said Linda Klepacki, sexual health analyst for Focus on the Family Action. "California has insisted on teaching contraceptive-based sex education in their schools all along. They expect teens to be sexually active. They don’t raise the health standard to abstinence."There were less than five California abstinence education programs funded by the federal government for next year. It's clear California supports sexually active teens, and STI rates will naturally explode with these policies."The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

reported in 2004 that 9.1 million new STIs occurred nationwide among 15- to 24-year-olds in 2000, with a direct medical cost of $6.5 billion.

FAMILY CONCERNS

Areas of InterestFRESH START I believe that we all need to regularly find places to begin again in different areas of our lives. It’s in these places that we need to draw a line separating us from all we’ve known in the past and move forward with a new outlook based upon the truth of God’s Word. In order to make a fresh start, we need to be willing to let go of what lies behind and take   hold of what lies ahead. I believe that some of the most important areas where all of us need a fresh start are how we see ourselves, how we think that God sees us, and what we see before us in our future. As we begin to see ourselves the way God sees us and get a good picture of the things He desires to bring about in and through our lives, our outlook on life can take on a whole new perspective. Make a Fresh Start!
