Community  Standard for Obscenity

The 20th annual White Ribbons Against Pornography (WRAP) Week began Sunday, October 28 to raise awareness of the harmful affects of pornography. Centers for Decency (CfD) joins the national campaign for opportunities to fight pornography and sexual addictions in calling respect for sexually virtuous values. WRAP Week began in 1987 as a result of one woman, Norma Norris, who sought sensitizing the public in every day life to the magnitude of the pornography problem. For one week, people are asked to wear or display a white ribbon  in solidarity against pornography. The Supreme Court determined in 1973 that the First Amendment does not protect “obscene material.”  Otherwise, people can complain weekly about hardcore pornography to elected officials, Vice Squad, businesses that distribute pornography, email or write letters to the editor(s), distribute information to the community, educate community leaders about the negative effects of pornography, ask pastoral leaders about addressing the sin of pornography, support those who are on the “front lines” of the fight against pornography, contact your Local Prosecutor, State Prosecutor and U.S. Attorney to complain about   violations of local --  state obscenity laws, and ask state and  local legislators to intervene against “sexually oriented businesses. ” Also call Morality in Media 212-870-3222. To schedule one of our conference speakers or spokespersons about obscenity, please contact Centers For Decency at 713-266-2715, or email info@CentersForDecency.org.

CONDOMS The school board in Portland, Maine, has decided that a health clinic at King Middle School will dispense birth-control pills to students without informing their parents. It already dispenses condoms to students who typically range in age from 11 to 14. All that's required is that the students undergo a checkup and get some counseling. I don't know about you, but I would wring the neck of any so-called health care professional that gave my middle-schooler birth control without my knowledge or consent. Who does Dr. Quackers think he is deciding what's best for my child? Last time I checked, he wasn't there when my child was up all night worrying about monsters in the closet, or agonizing over whether to wear the red or the blue dress to school, or dealing with the pain of rejection from the "in crowd." I don't recall him paying the bills for dance lessons, music lessons or the orthodontist. I didn't see him at my child's first ball game or ballet debut. Keep Your Condoms Off My Kids

INDICTMENTS "If just 29 records from one Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Kansas have produced 107 criminal charges, isn't it possible that similar abuses are also occurring at other of the 860 Planned Parenthood facilities nationwide? With our tax dollars supporting Planned Parenthood, the public has a right to know. A New Front in War on Abortion

Family Concerns

Everyday Answers REASONING Many Christians live in the shallow area of their soul—they live by what they want, think and feel. That’s where I was for a good part of my early years as a Christian. But thankfully, God didn’t leave me there. He began calling me to come out into the deep—to begin following the leading of His Spirit instead of the dictates of my flesh. God dealt strongly with my emotions and my will. Then He moved to the area of my mind, where I had some major strongholds of wrong thinking that needed to be changed—reasoning being one of the worst. I was a person who was heavily into reasoning, always trying to figure out the “why” behind something and planning excessively for what was ahead. But one day God required me to give it up. He showed me that reasoning is the opposite of trust and that I couldn’t do both at the same time. He then led me to some specific scriptures that opened  my eyes to the condition of my mind and showed me what I needed to do to bring about change. Set Free from Excessive Reasoning
