    Big City's Conference Shame

Houston is one of the leading cities known as the "Energy Capital  of the World." With a great economy, strong housing market, community standard for family values, and huge conference business, Houstonians are still waiting for the 1500 foot rule to be used to shut down as many as 250 SOBs which is representative of males with an addiction for pornography. Many of them have even crossed the line and become sex predators by using underage prostitutes who wait in the dark for those leaving the Treasures Topless Bar in the Galleria. Currently, the Houston Vice is arresting only more prostitutes and not addressing those with an addiction for pornography who feed at the topless bars, and not shutting them down -- even though Treasurers is also located in the only zoned area in Houston. Further, Jeff McShan with  KHOU conveys that city ordinance could shut down a vast majority of Houston's sexually oriented businesses. He states "Could." Is that scary or what? It appears that the Vice Squad is suddenly redefining the definition of the SOBs, which was defined in the l997 law and the late litigation. While Tony Perkins says -- according to the New York Times, fewer cities are willing to tolerate the influence of the adult industry on their neighborhoods. With the help of active citizens, a growing number of towns are using zoning laws to regulate sexually oriented shops and video stores. In states like Florida, Kansas, and New Jersey, the number of adult business is on the decline, largely because local governments are making it increasingly difficult for them to operate. Rather than banning the venues altogether, which some would argue is constitutional, townships are requiring a generous buffer zone--in some cities up to 500 feet--between porn shops and schools, churches, parks and residential areas. Not all of the owners can afford to move in compliance with the law, so many are forced to close. Residents have a right to set their own community standards, and it should be a tremendous encouragement to families to know that when their cities stand up to adult businesses, they can win. If you're interested in cleaning up your community, why not look into serving on your local zoning board?

PROMISCUITY LEADS TO ACADEMIC FAILURE London, January 26 (ANI): A new survey of the sex lives of students at Cambridge University has revealed that promiscuity adversely effects a persons ability to score good grades. More than 1,000 undergraduates were questioned during the survey, and it was found that those at poorly performing colleges had the most number of sexual partners. Peterhouse came near the bottom of the 2007 Tompkins Table, which ranks Cambridge colleges in order of their students academic performance, but third in the promiscuity list. The survey revealed that its students had an average of five sexual partners as compared to three at Christs College, which came second in last years academic table. It was also found that Christs had the highest number of virgins, with more than a quarter of respondents saying that they had never had sex. The surveyors say that students studying certain subjects were more promiscuous than others. Writing about their online poll, published in the student magazine Varsity, they said that pupils studying medicine had the most number of sexual partners, while students of theology had the fewest. Students of social political science came second, followed by pupils studying history and modern and medieval languages. The survey also revealed that many students were putting their health at stake by not getting tests for sexually transmitted diseases performed on them.Forty per cent of the students surveyed admitted having a one-night stand, while over 60 per cent said that they had never been tested for HIV, chlamydia or other sexually transmitted diseases. “The more sociable a person is the less time they have for their studies. People who have a lot of sexual partners not only spend time initiating relationships with people but they also have to contend with a lot of stress when those relationships break up. This can seriously affect a persons ability to concentrate,” the Telegraph quoted Cary Cooper, a professor of psychology and health at Lancaster University, as saying. Ed Cumming, the Associate Editor of Varsity magazine, said: “Some results confirm long-held stereotypes. Those involved in postgraduate study are less likely to have had sex than their undergraduate counterparts. It suggests that as long as you believe in sex before marriage, you will have lost your virginity by the time you graduate.” (ANI) Promiscuity leads to academic failure, shows Cambridge survey ...
