This One is Really for Children

ACTIVE DUTY John Walsh, host of ''AMW,'' will do his part Members of Congress often justify their actions as being “for the children.” So why is it proving so difficult to get them to fully fund the sex offender registry and notification system they created two years ago under the Adam Walsh Act? This one really is for the children. Keeping track of convicted sex offenders is a crucial part of our strategy to protect kids and vulnerable adults. Until recently, though, the law was an unworkable patchwork. Though all of the states had offender databases, the data they collected was haphazard and their classifications of offenses were wildly inconsistent. Information-sharing between the states and territories with federal law enforcers was difficult, and federally recognized Indian tribal jurisdictions weren’t even part of any national program at all. The result: More than 100,000 convicted sex offenders were officially “missing.” No one knew where they were. Parents had no reliable way to know if a convicted sex offender lived next door, and childcare providers and schools couldn’t screen out convicted abusers.   Read On

This is a rush transcript from "On the Record ." This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated. GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: Apparently a Canadian columnist who throws the first punch writing nasty insults about Governor Sarah Palin can't take it herself.  You may remember that we reported about columnist named Heather Mallick who on the CBC Web site compared Governor Sarah Palin to a porn star and called Governor Palin's supporters white trash. As you know, I didn't think Mallick's gratuitous insults provoked good debate or serious scrutiny but simply made her look like a pig. I said it- she's a pig. Now Mallick is also taking the heat from other for what she wrote, and she doesn't like it. We have invited her to go "On the Record" any time she wants, and I will be polite to her, of course, but so far she declines our request. Joining us live from Toronto, Canada is David Warren, columnist for the "Ottawa Citizen." David, how is she taking this insult from me, this insult back?  DAVID WARREN, "OTTAWA CITIZEN": Let's start with what I hear up here is that, Greta, you have been very naughty indeed in using that three letter word. Six children were put in temporary custody after a raid on a church compound as part of a child-porn investigation, Arkansas state police said. State police spokesman Bill Sadler said Sunday that the children will be in the custody of the Department of Human Services as authorities conduct interviews. He isn't saying how long the interviews might last. State officers and FBI agents raided the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries compound on Saturday. The ministry is led by convicted tax evader Tony Alamo. He has denied any involvement in pornography. The raid, conducted by state and federal authorities, started an hour before sunset at the complex in tiny Fouke, in southwestern Arkansas. Armed guards regularly patrol the headquarters, but there was no resistance as agents moved in, state police said. No one was arrested, but U.S. Attorney Bob Balfe said before the raid that he expected an arrest warrant for Alamo to be issued later. The federal investigation centered on the production of child pornography, while state police were looking into allegations of other child abuse, he said.  Horror at Arkansas Church

Study: Sexist Men Earn More Than Men Who View Women as Equals Is this study grounded and correct or what? If you are the type of man who believes a woman isn’t as equal to a man, you actually might earn more than men who do see females in an equal light, the Washington Post reported.  A study, published in the September issue of the Journal of Applied Psychology, said after analyzing interviews with nearly 8,000 people, researchers found that men with “traditional gender attitudes” earned $11,930 more than men with unrestricted attitudes.  The comparisons were based on individuals with the same levels of education. All of the subjects had the same types of jobs with the same amount of working hours. “We actually thought maybe men with traditional attitudes work in more complex jobs that pay more or select higher-paying occupations,” the study’s co-author Beth A. Livingston told the Washington Post. “Regardless of the jobs people chose, or how long they worked at them, there was a significant effect of gender role attitudes on income.”  Click here to read more at myfoxprovidence.com.  Click here to read the full study.  Email us at Comments@CentersForDecency.org for your thoughts on this issue.

America is broke. Wall Street is going out of business. The government is borrowing and bailing like there is notomorrow . Americans anxiously await the full impact of a second Great Depression. And we all are longing and looking for solutions and saviors.  Who will deliver us from our certain financial despair and ruin? The president? The secretary of the Treasury? The Federal Reserve? Congress? An ad hoc committee of Harvard MBAs? Some of America's best and biggest financial moguls? A new president? Have no fear. Our Founders are here. It's true that we can't repeat the past eight years of government. But it's even truer that we can't repeat the past 38 years of the government's financial mismanagement, especially when only four of them since 1970 haven't been deficit-building years. What we need is to turn back the financial clock 200 years and return to the fiscal prudence of our Founding Fathers. America's Founders' Financial Advice
