Barack Obama's daughters have already said life in the White House will be "cool" - and they think dad talks too much. Malia, 10, and Sasha, seven, have followed their father at times on the campaign trial, bringing water pistols to entertain themselves. Their appearances have entertained journalists and the public and have provided some of the highlights of the exhausting campaign to get their father elected. The girls will be the youngest children in the White House since nine-year-old Amy Carter in 1977 and will face intense scrutiny as children of the first black American president. Their importance was highlighted by Mr Obama as he promised them a puppy at the start of his victory speech. "I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House," Mr Obama told the girls at the start of his victory speech. His remarks were seen as a recognition of the huge electoral asset his family have been during the campaign to get him elected. Mr Obama's wife, 44-year-old Michelle, is believed by many to have been crucial in clinching his victory. When he had to break off the campaign just days before the election to visit his dying grandmother, Mrs Obama stepped in for him at events he had to miss. Read On |

HISTORIC VICTORY After clinching an historic victory, President-elect Barack Obama wakes up Wednesday morning to the task of uniting a divided country and laying the groundwork for an ambitious presidential agenda. Obama will inherit on Jan. 20 the worst financial crisis in 70 years, as well as the task of winning the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Within minutes of taking the stage in Chicago Tuesday night to acknowledge becoming the first black president of the United States, Obama cautioned voters of the tough road ahead. "Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there," Obama said in Grant Park. And to those who did not back his candidacy, Obama said, "I will be your president, too," and noted the need to "heal the divides that have held back our progress." With his victory, Obama, the Hawaiian-born son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, is poised to turn the page on Republican policies of the last eight years, as well as some racial barriers that have stood for generations. PAST MIDNIGHT - I was up way past midnight last night doing interviews, making calls to key allies around the country, analyzing voting results from key precincts – searching for any good news I could find. Alas, once Pennsylvania and Ohio were put in the Obama column, there was no realistic way for Senator McCain to win the election. Senator McCain ran 25 points ahead of President George Bush’s 23% approval rating, but even that fell short of the 50.1% of the vote needed to win.
There are some bright spots, however, and I will provide a more detailed report on the results later. But I want to share these first thoughts with you right now. Read On

CHALLENGE TO ALL BIG CITIES Aren't the big cities interesting -- especially when we find ourselves driving behind a cab in a long line of traffic? The advertising on the rear end of the taxicab often defines the city, whether it be restaurants, activities, sporting events, community projects, or the SOBs. In most sizeable cities, however, it's the Sexually Oriented Businesses which spend the most money or occupy the most number of taxicab signs. We have all been so accustomed in seeing those topless bar's signs marketed to those who have an addiction for pornography. BUT, listen to this.... We have GOOD NEWS -- Michael Spears, marketing and sales director of the Yellow Cab Company of Houston indicated, Yellow Cab had to bite-the-bullet about one year ago, refusing advertisement from the SOBs. Since then, the amount of advertising business with Yellow Cab has never been better, conveyed Spears. Just to give you a little background on Yellow Cab; they operate the largest cab companies in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Galveston. Here in Houston they currently have nearly 1,000 cabs advertising for their various wholesome customers. "We want first to thank Yellow Cab of Houston while encouraging and challenging everyone around the country to address the marketing messages on the rear of their taxicabs which do not promote family values. It has taken one-step at a time in our large city as our citizens become active in morality and decency -- continuing to impact our large area," stated Karen Kristopher with the Houston Area Association for Decency. "Seeing evidence from the US Supreme Court's decision in February 2008 allows our city the authority of shutting-down nearly 250 SOBs of 350. If you see a Yellow Cab, honk and wave with a big smile, or while visiting Houston, use their taxicab services." Click on the Yellow Cab logo if you need more information. |

SEX EDUCATION A new report suggests that television may be playing a starring role in your child's sex education. In a study of 2,003 teens aged 12-17, scientist Anita Chandra of RAND Research found that children who watched programs with "high levels of sexual content" were almost twice as likely to become pregnant as kids with limited exposure to such shows. The study, which was released today in the journal Pediatrics, is said to be the first to establish a real link between teen pregnancy and racy programming. When asked what shows they preferred, kids admitted to watching "Sex and the City," as well as the innuendo-heavy "Friends," "That '70s" Show," and reality fare. "This might surprise people, but sitcoms had the highest sexual content," Chandra said. Yet for all the glamorization of sex, very little attention has been paid to its consequences. "If teens are getting any of their information about sex from TV, they're very rarely going to get a balanced portrayal," Chandra said. "When there is [sexual content], how often is it coupled with a discussion of [the risks]?" Not very often, according to the Kaiser Foundation. A few years ago, it found that only 10 percent of shows with adult content made a passing reference to the dangers of sexual activity. Of course, RAND's research is far from the first blemish on television's record. Scientists have compiled quite a case against TV, which includes everything from early sexual activity and heightened aggression to an increased rate of STDs. Now that teen pregnancy has been added to the list, I can't help but wonder-when has television been associated with anything positive? While it's easy to become enraged with Hollywood, the burden of protecting our children falls on us. We cannot be complacent about what our kids are watching and expect them to take our values seriously. Sex education-or the lack of it-starts in the home. Don't let your television do the talking. Send your kids a clear message on abstinence before their innocence goes right down the tubes. Reported by Tony Perkins

GOOD NEWS Among the most important news from yesterday's elections were the banning of
homosexual "marriages" in the states of California, Florida, and Arizona. Indeed, the citizens of California overturned a tyrannical judicial decision by 4 California judges (in a 4-3 decision earlier this year) by passing Proposition 8 yesterday.
The President of the Christian Coalition of America, Roberta Combs said: "The American people are proud of their fellow citizens in the states of California, Florida and Arizona for upholding traditional marriage between one man and one woman. Christian Coalition of America will continue to fight to ensure that government serves to strengthen and preserve, rather than threaten, our families and our values."
Thus far, 30 states have outlawed homosexual "marriages" by an average close to 70% approval by voters through amendments to the state constitutions. In addition, the voters in Arkansas yesterday approved a measure banning unmarried couples from serving as adoptive or foster parents. It will be the goal of Christian Coalition to ensure that the other 20 states adopt similar amendments banning homosexual "marriages" including the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut which also had two judicial decisions, by one vote margins, legalizing these abominations. Reported by Christian Coalition of America. |
