Can Someone Please Explain?

Can someone please explain to me why Sarah Palin is still getting trashed a week after the election? I understand that the left-wing media hammered her during the campaign because they obviously favored Obama, and I also realize that scapegoating has become a national sport. But isn't enough enough with Gov. Palin? Apparently not. The fascinating thing about the latest round of Palin bashing is John McCain's reaction. A day after the election, Fox News political correspondent Carl Cameron reported on my TV program that some anonymous McCain staffers were frustrated because Palin didn't know much about the world. The now famous accusation is that the governor did not even know that Africa is a continent. Palin immediately denied it, and you would think McCain would have stopped that kind of vicious garbage in its tracks. But it took the senator six days before he publicly stuck up for her. So let me ask you something. If a friend of yours was being humiliated, would it take you six days to lend support? Finally, this past week McCain went on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and said he was very "proud" of Palin. Read On

4,784 VICTORY VOTES over Bradford's millions. Pat Lykos, the newly elected DA of Harris County -- Houston Texas, will face all criminal courts with over 51% of sex crimes come January. She has promised to make public the source for increased sex crimes -- such as "mass marketing of pornography" and having an addiction for pornography. Among numerous considerations, Lykos clearly addresses the facts why 72% of rapes go unreported as HPD needs to be more "user friendly."  Nearly 56% of all rapes are related to children under 18 years. And remember sexual predators attack their victims, on average, 113 times before they are arrested the first time.   DA-elect Lykos will also be addressing several newly elected democratic judges, questionable past lab results, illegal alien's arrests and sentencing, and a general rise in crimes -- while Houston has not been effected by a nationally weakened economy.   DA-elect Lykos is replacing Kenneth Magidson, a federal prosecutor serving as interim Harris County district attorney until a winner was declared. Magidson was appointed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry following the much-demanded resignation of former Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal, who was at the center of a scandal involving hundreds of racial and sexual e-mails found on county-owned computers.

After a year-long battle with congressional Democrats, President Bush had the last word on online wagering yesterday, after the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department issued a joint rule that will finally put a stop to illegal Internet gambling. FRC had worked extensively on the issue with House conservatives, helping them fend off members like Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) who were scheming to keep government agencies from implementing the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Without these new regulations, the law, which passed easily (317-93) last year, would have been useless. Now that the final puzzle piece is in place, banks and other payment agencies will have until December 2009 to stop credit card and other electronic payments to illegal gambling websites. This is a huge win for the family movement, which had argued that the banking industry had the technology to enforce the bans on Internet betting but not the will. Thanks to President Bush, who recognized the importance of closing the deal on UIGEA before leaving office, financial institutions will be obligated to protect Americans from a predatory industry that spawns an addictive habit which devastates families. DEFINING AMERICA I retrieve and open a large envelope from today's pile of mail. Inside is a press release announcing "Chick-fil-A Founder to Receive 2008 William E. Simon Prize for Philanthropic Leadership." I discover that Chick-fil-A founder is 87-year-old Atlanta businessman S. Truett Cathy. Reading about Cathy, amidst today's headlines, I am wondering if his story is what America is about, or was about. Cathy built, and today is owner/operator, of the privately held Chick-fil-A fast food chain, with more than 1400 locations and sales of over $2.6 billion dollars. He's from humble roots in rural Georgia and opened the first Chick-fil-A store in Atlanta in 1967. In contrast to stereotypes equating business, particularly big business, to greed, Cathy's life and work has been defined by service and Christian charity. The corporate mission statement of Chick-fil-A is "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A." Chick-fil-A stores are closed on Sunday to allow employees to devote the day to faith and family. Cathy established a scholarship fund in 1973 for Chick-fil-A employees and to date around 23,000 have received more than $24 million in scholarship funds. In 1984 he established the WinShape Foundation which last year alone spent $18 million supporting a network of foster homes, camps, scholarships, and marriage counseling programs. Who will define America?"

Girls as young as 12 are being exploited for sex in Portland, Ore., according to an NBCinvestigation.  Teri Williams used to be one of them. “You're a prisoner," she told NBC's Portland affiliate KGW. "No one is going to let you go. You are the pimp’s meal ticket.” Authorities say there are hundreds of girls still stuck on the streets of Portland. Human-trafficking investigators and government researchers estimate the average pimp in the U.S. can make more than $200,000 a year off one young girl. Across the country, 17 people were arrested in Louisiana last week in an Internet child-pornography sting that police said involved sexual abuse of children as young as 3. The men were arrested in seven parishes in the Alexandria, Lake Charles and Lafayette areas, The Associated Press reported. Attorney General Buddy Caldwell said he expects more arrests. Daniel Weiss, senior analyst for media and sexuality at Focus on the Family Action, said the horror of child sexual exploitation is growing worse. "We cannot expect a change until the culture as a whole puts an end to the mass marketing of pornography," he said. "If we continue to allow pornographers to put out the message that humans are nothing more than sexual commodities, we cannot act surprised when children are abused, consumed and molested for someone’s sexual gratification. "Law enforcement officials must begin prosecuting the entire range of illegal pornography.” Reported by Jennifer Mesko.

CHALLENGE TO ALL BIG CITIES  All cities can be interesting -- especially when we find ourselves driving behind a taxicab in large cities.   The advertising on the rear end of taxicabs often defines the city, whether it be with radio talk hosts, restaurants, sporting events, community projects, the Star of Hope, or the SOBs.   In most sizeable cities like Houston, however, it's usually the Sexually Oriented Businesses whose spend the most money or occupy the most number of taxicab signs. Nevertheless, these days we are or will be seeing wholesome companies, and nonprofits like the Star of Hope, Rescue and Restore, and the Houston Area Association for Decency on the rear end of the taxicabs ever since Houston Yellow cabs denied the 350 SOBs access to their portable signage about one year ago. As we approach Thanksgiving, Houston Yellow Cabs will be picking-up 125 women and children from their temporary residence at the Star of Hope and taking them to the HardRock Cafe downtown. If you see a Yellow Cab, honk and wave with a big smile, or while visiting Houston, use their taxicab services."  Click on the Yellow Cab logo if you need more information.
