New Raw Deal

MalkinFresh off the trillion-dollar porkulus bill signing in Denver, President Obama immediately launched into his next New Raw Deal expansion: a massive mortgage entitlement program forcing lenders to refinance at an initial cost of $50 billion to $100 billion. That's in addition to the bipartisan-supported $50 billion in the "stimulus" bill to bail out homeowners underwater on their mortgages and the $2 billion in "neighborhood stabilization" funds to alleviate the foreclosure crisis.

In tandem with the White House Bad Borrowers Bailout, Obama's old friends at the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) are launching a new campaign of their own: the "Home Savers" campaign. What a coinky-dinky, huh? As with most of the bully tactics of the radical left-wing group, it ain't gonna be pretty. They are the shock troops on the streets doing the dirty work while the Community Organizer-in-Chief keeps his delicate hands clean. Read On

TODAY a federal court will consider the latest attempt to secularize America, led by militant atheist lawyer Michael Newdow. His lawsuit, Newdow v. Roberts, seeks to purge all references to God from presidential inaugurations.

It's the latest assault on people of faith in America, with the goal of creating a purely secular society, and it will only get worse if President Obama fulfills his promise to recreate the Supreme Court.

Although originally filed to affect the 2009 inauguration, this suit now targets 2013 and beyond. Newdow v. Roberts seeks two changes to the ceremony. First, it seeks a court order forbidding the chief justice from saying "so help me God" as he administers the oath of office. Second, it seeks an order forbidding both prayers during the ceremony: the invocation and the benediction. Newdow's suit claims that these actions violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. Read On

Playboy Enterprises Inc , publisher of one of the world's best known adult magazines, posted a wider fourth-quarter loss, hurt by $157.2 million in restructuring and other one-time costs, as well as weaker-than-expected revenue.

The company, which posted a net loss in each quarter of 2008, also said it would be open to discussions about an outright sale of the company, or changes in the strategic direction of the flagship Playboy Magazine.

Net loss for Playboy, which in recent months has seen a management shake-up including the resignation in December of longtime Chief Executive Christie Hefner, was $145.7 million, or $4.37 per share. Read On

Michelle Obama's senior year thesis at Princeton University, obtained from the campaign by Politico, shows a document written by a young woman grappling with a society in which a black Princeton alumnus might only be allowed to remain "on the periphery." Read the full thesis here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4. "My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my 'blackness' than ever before," the future Mrs. Obama wrote in her thesis introduction. "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second." The thesis, titled "Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community" and written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, in 1985, has been the subject of much conjecture on the blogosphere and elsewhere in recent weeks, as it has been "temporarily withdrawn" from Princeton's library until after this year's presidential election in November. Some of the material has been written about previously, however, including a story last year in the Newark Star Ledger.Obama writes that the path she chose by attending Princeton would likely lead to her "further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant." SIN TAXES IT seems that the proposals to impose higher taxes on so-called sin products like alcohol and cigarettes will have a hard time sailing through at the House of Representatives, as legislators as well as industry players are at loggerheads over the issue, which is among the options being seriously considered to shore up revenues to protect the public from the adverse effects of the global financial crisis. During deliberation of separate bills proposing adjustments in sin taxes, Lakas Rep. Exequiel Javier of Antique, House ways and means committee chairman, cautioned his colleagues against passing the measure, saying that it is not in consonance with the move of many countries which had instead cut taxes as a means of confronting the looming worldwide financial crisis. He warned that the economic slump will dictate the way people spend, thus they might scrimp on expenditures on tobacco products and liquor. Imposing another round of increase in sin taxes may not give the government the needed revenues, he added. In contrast, Liberal Party Rep. Danilo Suarez of Quezon said the additional taxes would raise for the government an estimated P75 billion, which may be spent in the implementation of economic-stimulus measures through additional social services and infrastructure. PEDOPHILE COUSIN The family of a little Florida girl who apparently vanished while she was sleeping is afraid she was taken by a pedophile cousin. The mother and paternal grandmother of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings said Friday the man in question is a cousin of Misty Croslin, the teenage girlfriend of Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings. Police are questioning the cousin, who is from Tennessee and was visiting when Haleigh disappeared before dawn Feb. 10, according to MyFOXOrlando.com. Click here for photos."What we've been told is that he's a sexual pedophile," said Haleigh's mother Crystal Sheffield. The child's grandmother, Teresa Neves, said Croslin described him as a "jerk" and she was worried. "I couldn't tell you anything about him," a distraught Neves told reporters Friday, adding that she only knew of the cousin by his first name Joe. "I can't tell you how they could have taken her from a family that absolutely adores her." The family's plea for the child's return came as news emerged about a tip from Tennessee called in by a woman claiming to have seen a man in a restaurant with a little girl resembling Haleigh, according to MyFOXOrlando.com.
