You aren't Bipolar

Jails across the country are claiming most jailed criminal convictions are related to bipolar behavior, thereby - undermining personal responsibility. This so-called mental disorder is now being applied to the nonjailed population. It’s getting old, isn’t it? Everyone these days is bipolar or has some other chic mental disorder that he feels excuses his self-centered conduct, even for sex predators. Like the guy who once walked into my class twenty minutes late. I told him it was his last time to come in late. He said, “But you don’t understand, I’m bipolar.” And he said it in front of the whole class.

Having a mental disorder used to be a source of embarrassment. Have you ever noticed that anyone who exercises has no claim for mental disorder? But, now, it’s often a request for special treatment, which, when granted, fuels self-centered conduct. That’s why a pastor friend of mine now hears the claim “But, I’m bipolar!” in approximately 80 percent of his marital counseling sessions. This means that approximately 40 percent of the people he counsels are claiming to be “bipolar.”

Is there something in the water that is causing a massive outbreak in manic-depression and other mental disorders? Or is it possible that we live culture of entitlement, which gives us strong incentives to claim some sort of disability rather than face the consequences of our freely chosen actions? AMERICA'S OBSCENITY YESTERDAY was the 50th anniversary of the court ruling that overturned America’s obscenity laws, setting off an explosion of free speech — and also, in retrospect, splashing cold water on the idea, much discussed during Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings, that judges are “umpires” rather than agents of social change.

The historic case began on May 15, 1959, when Barney Rosset, the publisher of Grove Press, sued the Post Office for confiscating copies of the uncensored version of D. H. Lawrence’s 1928 novel “Lady Chatterley’s Lover,” which had long been banned for its graphic sex scenes.

Most lawyers of the time would have advised Mr. Rosset that he had a weak case. Read On

Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee defeated an amendment that would have prevented illegal aliens from using the so-called "public health insurance option." Every Democrat on the panel voted against the measure.

Nevada GOP Rep. Dean Heller's measure would have enforced income, eligibility and immigration verification screening on all Obamacare patients. Unlike most everything else stuffed into the House Democrats' plan, the citizenship vetting process would not have required building a new bureaucracy. Heller proposed using existing state and federal databases created years ago to root out entitlement fraud. Read On

UNBORN President Obama's universal healthcare plan may move him one step closer to his goal of allowing unlimited access to abortion-on-demand.

White House budget director Peter Orszag was asked by host Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday if he would rule out including taxpayer funding of abortions in the president's government-run healthcare plan.

Orszag: "Uh, I, I think that that will wind up being part of the debate. I'm not prepared to say explicitly that right now. It's obviously a controversial issue, and it's one of the questions that is playing out in this debate."

Wallace: "So you're not prepared to rule [it] out."

Orszag:  "I'm not prepared to rule it out."

Douglas Johnson of National Right to Life says if the bill the White House is backing were enacted in its current form, it would result in the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.

"These bills that President Obama is pushing would result in federally funded abortion, but they would also result in federally mandated coverage of abortion by nearly all health plans -- not only the government plan, but also private health plans. They would require that local health networks recruit abortionists and set up abortion clinics. They would nullify many state abortion laws," he notes. "The pro-abortion groups understand these effects very well, and they are fighting amendments that we are supporting to clean up these bills."

During a 2007 campaign speech to Planned Parenthood, Barack Obama said the first thing he would do as president "is sign the Freedom of Choice Act" -- a bill that would eliminate all state and federal restrictions on abortion. Jim Brown reporting for OneNewsNow.
