Central to proposed Democrat reforms is the establishment of a new Consumer Financial Protection Agency. This agency would have broad authority to oversee and regulate financial service products like mortgages and credit cards and will be responsible to protect consumers from "unfair" and "abusive" products. Unfortunately, when bureaucrats get authority to determine what is fair, the very people who they supposedly are charged to protect -- us -- are the ones who get hurt. Read On |

The president told the crowd he supports the gay activist agenda. "When you look back on these years," he said, "you will see a time in which we as a nation finally recognized relationships between two men or two women as just as real and admirable as relationships between a man and a woman." Obama promised that he would end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," the Clinton-era policy that allows gay men and women to serve in the armed forces as long as they don't reveal their sexual orientation.  A 17-year-old Eagle Scout in upstate New York has been barred from stepping foot on school grounds for 20 days — for keeping a 2-inch pocketknife locked in a survival kit in his car. Matthew Whalen, a senior at Lansingburgh Senior High School, says he follows the Boy Scout motto and is always prepared, stocking his car with a sleeping bag, water, a ready-to-eat meal — and the knife, which was given to him by his grandfather, a police chief in a nearby town. But Lansingburgh High has a zero-tolerance policy, and when school officials discovered that Whalen kept his knife locked in his car, he says, they suspended him for five days — and then tacked on an additional 15 after a hearing.
