After Sandra Bullock's whirlwind past few weeks that included a Best Actress Oscar, shocking cheating allegations in her marriage and an ensuing divorce, the news that she is now adopting a baby boy is all very uplifting. But Bullock may never have had the chance to be a new mom had her husband’s apparent Nazi obsession and infidelity been exposed before baby Louis was brought to them.
“I do (believe it would have hurt their adoption chances). The agency would take it into consideration whether they think they would be an appropriate couple and because of all the publicity, definitely look at them again,” Gloria Hochman, Director of Communications at the National Adoption Center told Pop Tarts. “It could work against them. As a national debate flares up over Arizona's new immigration enforcement law, local leaders in some communities across the country are clashing with their police departments over whether those departments should be working closely with the federal government in targeting illegal immigrants.
Among the places where such battles are being or have been fought are Washington, D.C, Morristown, N.J., and Maricopa County, Ariz. The tension centers on two of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's major programs enlist the help of local law enforcement officials to identify and deport illegal immigrants.
ICE's Secure Communities program, created in 2008, allows authorities to check the immigration status of individuals they arrest, through fingerprinting. The program is operational in 168 jurisdictions in 20 states.
And the agency's more intensive 287(g) program gives local police authority to initiate deportation proceedings against illegal immigrants linked to serious crimes. Immigration authorities say they have agreements with 71 law enforcement agencies in 26 states for the 287(g) program and have identified more than 160,000 illegal immigrants since 2006 – mostly at local jails. S.E. Cupp is one of the most influential Millennials in American culture today. She has appeared on Fox News Channel and CNN and is a regular guest on "Hannity."
1. S.E., you make no bones about being an atheist. Why defend Christianity against the liberal media?
I think being an atheist or a nonbeliever makes me the perfect candidate to address this issue, because I approach it entirely objectively. My agenda here isn't to prop up my own belief system, but to defend others' rights to believe in something I don't, and more importantly, to demand a more responsible, representative press.
2. You say Christians are the only acceptable people for the media to make fun of. Expound on that.
Hollywood started treating Christianity like it was some kind of social disease decades ago. These days, it's practically company policy in Hollywood to mock Christianity as hopelessly uncool and unsophisticated. The liberal media has, in the past 10 years or so, joined in the action. I think they've both been so successful in promoting that message in the popular culture, because Christians represent a vast majority -- and majorities get complacent. But, if Christian America doesn't stand up to the liberal media and demand more respect, they might not be a majority in the future. Read On |

New York City's police commissioner said Sunday that authorities are examining several leads in the failed Times Square car bombing that would have caused a "significant fireball," focusing closely on a surveillance video that captured a man fleeing the scene.
Commissioner Ray Kelly said it was "the intent of whoever did this to cause mayhem, create casualties" and noted that some munitions of the potentially powerful bomb detonated inside the SUV parked in Times Square on Saturday.
A monitoring group said Sunday that the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the bomb but Kelly said there is "no evidence" linking the group to the bomb, which prompted thousands of tourists to be cleared from the streets for 10 hours while the explosive was dismantled. Read On |
