Becoming Desensitized

Drives People Ballistic

On a recent road trip, my husband and I stopped for lunch in a small rural town in the heart of the Bible Belt. Inside the restaurant, a teenage girl in an evening gown explained that she was the high school homecoming queen and that she would be in the parade that afternoon. A few minutes later, I saw the girl talking with her friends while holding her baby. That’s how far we have fallen—in a small rural town, in the heart of the Bible Belt, an unwed teen mother was elected homecoming queen. How We Can Win the Culture War It's better to teach abstinence, avoiding STDs, than experiencing motherhood as a teen. If not, let's get ready to catch the babies.

On the Frontlines

Daily, we hope teens, young girls, and children will escape from those with an addiction for pornography who mark their victims in sex crimes. We can also pray that God will reveal the sex predators and use us to rescue a child. But with the media reporting volumns on sexual molestation and rape, our watchful eye is at risk of becoming desensitized, unless we thoroughly engage in activities that foster traditional values and get involved. Don't wait until the victim is the face of someone you love.

bob peters Combat Porn

Centers for Decency wants to support the efforts of  Morality in Media in New York. -- This summer a woman called to see if MIM had a bulletin insert on the subject of pornography. Her call prompted Robert Peters to revise the WHAT YOU CAN DO TO COMBAT PORNOGRAPHY DURING WRAP WEEK AND THROUGHOUT THE YEAR flyer, which can be distributed to church and other organization members, family, friends and co-workers, and to members of the public (e.g., at a shopping mall). It's an inexpensive way to get the word out!

Under Attack

A new survey showed the majority of Americans think religion is "under attack" and "losing its influence" in American life.
According to the poll, American Attitudes Toward Religion In the Public Square, 64 percent agreed with the statement that "religion is under attack" in America, and 80 percent of those who identify themselves as fundamentalist/evangelical/charismatic Christians, were in agreement. Boy Scouts Under Fire, again

Six years after the Supreme Court ruled the Boy Scouts could ban gay leaders, the group is fighting and losing legal battles with state and local governments over its discriminatory policies. The latest setback for the Boy Scouts came Monday when the high court without comment refused to take a case out of Berkeley, Calif., in which a Scouts sailing group lost free use of a public marina because the Boy Scouts bar atheists and gays.
