 Truancy Leads to Crime The Northwest Houston Sunrise Rotary Club has been focusing on youth-related projects this year. Mike Marcon says, Our "Rotary Club has an intervention project under way involving the Boy Scouts of America and Harris County Precinct 4 Judge Kent Adams. Young males who have committed nonviolent crimes, are offered alternatives to normal sentencing, and given the option to join
Boy Scouts. We give money to the Scouts to help pay for the boys to join, provide them with uniforms, allow them to go to camps. Whatever is needed so they can participate." Marcon said they also work closely with seven elementary schools in Spring, Klein and Cy-Fair to encourage attendance and good grades. Houston Chronicle.

Boy Scouts of America
Boys can enter as Cubs but might leave flying like Eagles. Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the nation's largest youth organizations. It has about 2.9 million youth members and 1.1 million adult leaders in some 122,500 units. BSA offers educational and character-building programs emphasizing leadership, citizenship, personal development, and physical fitness. In addition to traditional scouting programs (Cub, Webelos, and Boy Scouts, ranging up to Eagle rank), it offers the Venturing program for boys and girls ages 14-20.
